Global Hookah Distributors wins case with Florida tax collector

Global-HookahThe Law Offices of Moffa, Sutton, & Donnini, P.A. recently won Global Hookah Distributors Inc. v. Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR). The case dealt with the issue of whether state tax was due on federal excise tax. Prior to the administrative court hearings, Global Hookah Distributors had also been charged over $500k for unpaid taxes, penalties, and interest.

Moffa, Sutton, & Donnini began the process by filing with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation, and the case was then sent to the Division of Administrative Hearings (DOAH). There, it was then determined that the previous assessment of the Global Hookah Distributors owing over $500k in taxes and fees should be dismissed. Global Hookah Distributors had paid their taxes correctly, and Moffa, Sutton, and Donnini put an end to Florida’s insistence on taxing federal tax.
