Miami Libertarians condemn detention of libertarian activists in Cuba

On the evening of March 14, 2017, the Libertarian Party of Miami-Dade County resolved:

1) Condemn the unjust detention of libertarian activists Ubaldo Herrera Hernandez and Manuel Velasquez by agents of the Castro regime in Cuba on 2 February; and

2) Call for the immediate safe release of these political prisoners who were targeted for their peaceful activism promoting limited government and free markets, as well as all other political prisoners currently being held; and

3) Ask all businesses and other foreign entities engaged in business dealings with, investing in, or holding property within Cuba, to withdraw from these business dealings if Cuba does not release its political prisoners, and to duly notify their contacts within the Castro regime of this intent; and

4) Encourage Libertarian Party members and all supporters of political freedom to contact said businesses and express their intent to cease dealings with the same so long as they are actively engaged in business dealings with the Cuban government and it continues to hold political prisoners.

The continued detention of Hernandez and Velasquez is raising the ire of a growingjail number of Americans. Last week, the Libertarian Party of Florida made a similar resolution. Besides resolutions of support, other actions are underway for the release of political prisoners in Cuba and we will keep you apprised as they develop.
