Tax Revolution Institute stands with Bridge Alliance to ‘rise above the political divide’

Washington, DC —The Tax Revolution Institute (TRI) — a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that promotes “justice and integrity in the tax system” — is a proud member of the Bridge Alliance, a “transpartisan” coalition that is “committed to building bridges and removing walls” within American politics.TRI-logo-web

On September 15, 2016, the Bridge Alliance will launch Updraft America, a media campaign that aims to “end political gridlock and move America forward.” The campaign begins with a panel discussion to be held from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the American University’s Katzen Museum in Washington, DC.

The panel will be moderated by Cokie Roberts of ABC News and will feature guests such as Francine Kiefer of the Christian Science Monitor, Nomika Konst of The Hill, and American University Executive in Residence Rebecca Cooper.

TRI Executive Director Dan Johnson will also be in attendance for Thursday’s event in Washington to lend solidarity and support for the Bridge Alliance’s efforts to improve our political system and promote discourse that “rises above the political divide.”

“The Tax Revolution Institute is a strong advocate for non-partisanship and fully supports the Updraft America campaign,” TRI Legal Director Robert Rodrigo said. “We look forward to attending the launch and participating in future events to promote this project.”

In a statement from President and Co-Director David Nevins and Secretary and Co-Director Debilyn Molineaux, the Bridge Alliance says their initiative will also seek to bolster a “third narrative” that is designed “to counter the persistent drumbeat of incivility, political point-scoring and shallow discussions.”

To that end, the panel discussion on Thursday will be held in conjunction with a unique political art exhibit created by Suzanne Firstenberg. According to Nevins and Molineaux, the exhibit will feature “10,718 paper airplanes, each one a page of the Congressional record, [that] are striped red or blue to connote bitter partisan politics and offer a powerful artistic imagery of the bridge we must find to bring America together.”

“As the uppermost planes rise, as if taking flight,” the co-directors said, “their hues combine to become purple — the color of reason.”

More information about this event, as well as details on how to RSVP and attend in person, can be found at UpdraftAmerica.org and BridgeAlliance.us.
