Colorado Sen. Michael Bennet must fix Obamacare: Proposed health care plan rate increases as high as 40 percent

Advancing Colorado, Democratic Colorado Sen. Michael Bennet’s loudest critic today launched their latest campaign highlighting the recently proposed 2017 Obamacare rate hikes. The campaign educates Coloradans on dangerous increases in health care costs, proposed rate hikes and canceled plans, and urges Coloradans to call on Bennet to “fix Obamacare.” The campaign features digital and grassroots efforts and kicks off what will become an ongoing effort including rich media and more.

The Colorado Division of Insurance (DOI) released the preliminary information for proposed health insurance plans and premiums hikes for 2017, as high as 40 percent and reports indicated nearly 100,000 Coloradans will lose coverage.

Advancing Colorado Executive Director Jonathan Lockwood released the following statement:

“Thanks to Bennet, Coloradans are forced to fork over more and more of their hard-earned money, but they keep getting less for their health care. Our health care costs are rapidly escalating and while out-of-touch Bennet said he is aware he doesn’t seem to offer any solutions. Many feel totally forsaken by Bennet, saying they never see him in Colorado, so thankfully our campaign will help alleviate this estrangement and push him to fix the bad parts of Obamacare.”

From the campaign microsite ‪http://obamacare.advancingco.org/ :

“Sen. Michael Bennet enthusiastically supported Obamacare in 2009, claiming, ‘If you have coverage and you like it, you can keep it.’

Sen. Michael Bennet lied.

In May, we learned that UnitedHealthcare and Humana will no longer offer individual health plans in Colorado in 2017, forcing 20,000 Coloradans to find new plans. The Colorado Division of Insurance says approximately 92,000 people will lose their individual plans from UnitedHealthcare, Humana, Rocky Mountain Health Plans (RMHP), and Anthem this year.

Despite the Obamacare promise to lower health insurance premiums, Coloradans’ health insurance premiums increased by as much as 30 percent in 2016 alone and proposed health care rate hikes could increase our 2017 premiums by another 40 percent.”

Lockwood added:

“Obama and Bennet crusaded for the government have 100 percent control over health care and peddled the myth it would save us $2,500 a year on our health insurance. Exactly the opposite has happened, we are staring at possible increases over that amount. We were told we could keep our doctors, keep our plans, keep this, keep that, all of it total lies. This is a devastating impact especially on children, moms, Millennials and senior citizens but the good news is that we can fix Obamacare.”
